PECAN PIE CONTEST AND SCAVENGER HUNT ADDS TO THE FUN AT THE SAHUARITA PECAN FESTIVAL

SAHUARITA, Ariz. – Two exciting new competitions are coming to the 5th Annual Sahuarita Pecan Festival, which will be held from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m on Sat., Nov. 9, 2013 at The Green Valley Pecan Company, 1625 E. Sahuarita Road, Sahuarita. Attendees at the free festival have the opportunity of participating in an all-new Sahuarita Pecan Pie Contest and our first Facebook Photo Scavenger Hunt.

“We are very excited to showcase tasty local creations at the first Sahuarita Pecan Pie Contest and we’re looking forward to seeing the fabulous festival photos shared by our Facebook Scavenger Hunt participants,” said Deborah Walden-Ralls, FICO Director of Marketing. “There’s really something for everyone at this good old fashioned country fair.”

2012-Festival-0960The first annual Sahuarita Pecan Pie Contest is sponsored by Mama’s Hawaiian Barbeque in Sahuarita’s Fry’s Marketplace. Gift certificates and pecans will be awarded, with 1st Place receiving a $100 gift card to the Pecan Store, a $50 gift card to Mama’s Hawaiian Barbecue and complementary pecans. Contest entrants will receive recognition on Facebook, website and during the judging on Nov. 9.

Contest registration forms can be picked up at Mama’s Hawaiian Barbecue, The Pecan Store or online at www.sahuaritapecanfestival.com. The entry fee is $10.00, paid at time of registration. Contestants will also receive a complementary 1 lb. bag of Green Valley Pecans for their pies.

The Facebook Photo Scavenger Hunt will kick off with a series of eight clues for sought-after photos that will be posted to the Green Valley Pecan Facebook page. After deciphering the clues, participants will have until Monday, Nov. 11 to post their photos to the Green Valley Pecan Facebook page. From Nov. 11 to Nov. 15, voting will be underway to determine the winners. The photos of each desired shot with the most “Likes” will win! Each winner will receive a 14 oz. 7-Section Candy Tray, including four delicious flavors: Praline, Cinnamon, Chocolate Covered and the signature Natural Pecans.

The Sahuarita Pecan Festival has averaged nearly 12,000 attendees each year. Over the past four years, the Festival has raised more than $13,000 and 2,600 pounds of food for local charities. For the latest updates, please visit the official Festival website at
