4th Breeze in the Trees 5K Run/Walk Set for Saturday July 26
Kicks off 2014 Sahuarita Pecan Festival

(SAHUARITA, Ariz.) The countdown for the Sahuarita Pecan Festival begins in earnest on Saturday, July 26, 2014, with the 4th annual ‘Breeze in the Trees’ 5K run hosted by the Green Valley Pecan Company. The 5K run/walk course will take runners on a cool summer run through the Pecan Groves and conclude with a pancake breakfast.

breeze_artThe race will start near the Pecan Store parking lot at 6:00AM. Runners are encouraged to pre-register at either www.taggrun.com or www.sahuaritapecanfestival.com. The entrance fee is $30 for runners of all ages. Race day registration opens at 5:30AM.

The Breeze in the Trees is part of FICO’s goal to promote outdoor activities to encourage community health and fitness. 175 runners participated in the 2011 and 200 in 2012 and 2013.

After the race, all runners and guests can enjoy a complimentary pancake breakfast served by Rural Metro Fire Department. The Pecan Store also will have modified hours for July 26, 2014, opening early – 8:00 am and closing at 5:00 pm.

The Breeze in the Trees Run/Walk event will give runners a sneak preview of the Pecan Classic and Family Fun Run to be held during the 2014 Sahuarita Pecan Festival on Saturday, November 8, 2014.

The Pecan Festival will include local foods, products and crafts from the Santa Cruz River Valley, along with music, dancing and FREE Kid’s Zone and other family-friendly activities. The Festival will also feature horse drawn wagon rides for harvest demonstrations in the orchard.

Now entering its sixth year, this unique, community-oriented celebration is becoming an annual Southern Arizona tradition. The Sahuarita Pecan Festival averaged nearly 18,000 attendees for each of the past 5 years and has raised over $16,000 and 3,000 pounds of food for local charities, including the Green Valley-Sahuarita Food Bank, Friends of Madera Canyon, the Green Valley-Sahuarita Optimist Club, the Sahuarita/Green Valley 4-H club, the Sahuarita JROTC, Boy Scouts, Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance and Walden Grove Robotics Club, and Valle Verde Rotary Club.
