The Fifth Annual Pecan Classic 8.5 Mile or 3.7 Mile and The Nut Run – A Family Fun Run – 1.5 Mile

2012pecanClassicCome be a part of this run, and run through the Pecan orchard in November in all it’s fall colors… The race route will travel a scenic course on the orchards south of Sahuarita Road on dirt roads and trails through the pecan orchards, giving runners a unique opportunity to see the farm and enjoy the most amazing Fall running experience under the trees. The Pecan Classic 8.5 features prize money and unique awards to the top three men and top three women…. Awards to top three finishers in each division in the Pecan Classic 8.5 and 3.7.  All race participants in the Pecan Classic will receive a FREE tech t-shirt which is guaranteed to all who preregister by 10/26/13 or a cotton t-shirt which is guaranteed to all who preregister from 10/27/2013 thru 11/2/2013.  The Nut Run features ribbons to all participants and a cotton t-shirt if preregistered by 11/2/13.

PECAN PIE CONTEST AND SCAVENGER HUNT ADDS TO THE FUN AT THE SAHUARITA PECAN FESTIVAL

SAHUARITA, Ariz. – Two exciting new competitions are coming to the 5th Annual Sahuarita Pecan Festival, which will be held from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m on Sat., Nov. 9, 2013 at The Green Valley Pecan Company, 1625 E. Sahuarita Road, Sahuarita. Attendees at the free festival have the opportunity of participating in an all-new Sahuarita Pecan Pie Contest and our first Facebook Photo Scavenger Hunt.

“We are very excited to showcase tasty local creations at the first Sahuarita Pecan Pie Contest and we’re looking forward to seeing the fabulous festival photos shared by our Facebook Scavenger Hunt participants,” said Deborah Walden-Ralls, FICO Director of Marketing. “There’s really something for everyone at this good old fashioned country fair.”

2012-Festival-0960The first annual Sahuarita Pecan Pie Contest is sponsored by Mama’s Hawaiian Barbeque in Sahuarita’s Fry’s Marketplace. Gift certificates and pecans will be awarded, with 1st Place receiving a $100 gift card to the Pecan Store, a $50 gift card to Mama’s Hawaiian Barbecue and complementary pecans. Contest entrants will receive recognition on Facebook, website and during the judging on Nov. 9.

Contest registration forms can be picked up at Mama’s Hawaiian Barbecue, The Pecan Store or online at www.sahuaritapecanfestival.com. The entry fee is $10.00, paid at time of registration. Contestants will also receive a complementary 1 lb. bag of Green Valley Pecans for their pies.

The Facebook Photo Scavenger Hunt will kick off with a series of eight clues for sought-after photos that will be posted to the Green Valley Pecan Facebook page. After deciphering the clues, participants will have until Monday, Nov. 11 to post their photos to the Green Valley Pecan Facebook page. From Nov. 11 to Nov. 15, voting will be underway to determine the winners. The photos of each desired shot with the most “Likes” will win! Each winner will receive a 14 oz. 7-Section Candy Tray, including four delicious flavors: Praline, Cinnamon, Chocolate Covered and the signature Natural Pecans.

The Sahuarita Pecan Festival has averaged nearly 12,000 attendees each year. Over the past four years, the Festival has raised more than $13,000 and 2,600 pounds of food for local charities. For the latest updates, please visit the official Festival website at

5th ANNUAL SAHUARITA PECAN FESTIVAL GEARING UP

SAHUARITA, Ariz. – Now that we are past Labor Day and into September, preparations are well on their way for the 5th Annual Sahuarita Pecan Festival, an old-fashioned country fair with activities for all ages. Hosted by The Green Valley Pecan Company, it will take place on Saturday November 9, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Green Valley Pecan Company, 1625 E. Sahuarita Road, Sahuarita. Admission to the Festival will be free.
“The Festival gets more exciting every year, with new activities for folks of all ages”, said Deborah Walden-Ralls, FICO Director of Marketing. “We’re very excited to share what we have been hard at work on.”

The day’s festivities will kick off with the Pecan Classic Nut Run/Walk at 8 a.m. To register, go to taggrun.com. Register by Oct. 26, 2013 for your commemorative T-shirt.

This year’s festival attractions include a KID’s Zone, sponsored by Tucson Medical Center. The KID’s Zone will include bounce houses, carnival games, petting zoo and pony rides.

As in years past, there will be arts and crafts vendors in the marketplace to start your holiday shopping. Also, food vendors from throughout Southern Arizona will be preparing great BBQ and other local fare along with sweets and treats. Borderlands Brewery will be serving its very special ‘La Morena’ nut-brown beer made with Green Valley pecans!

The entertainment area will feature performances by ‘80’s and the Gentlemen,’ traditional Tohono O’odham dance, Mariachis and our famous pecan cracking contest.

The Heritage area will showcase Arabian horse demonstrations, tractor pull contests, antique tractor displays, and the heritage tent where guest can learn about traditional basket weaving, and agriculture and history of the Santa Cruz River Valley. Horse-drawn wagon rides into the orchard for pecan harvest demonstrations will be available for either a food or monetary donation to the Green Valley-Sahuarita Community Food Bank.

New this year is the Sahuarita Pecan Pie Contest sponsored by Mama’s Hawaiian Bar-B-Cue. The entry fee is $10 and entrants will receive a one pound bag of pecan halves for baking. Registration forms can be found at either Mama’s Hawaiian Bar-B-Cue location in Sahuarita or at the Pecan Store or at www.sahuaritapecanfestival.com.

A key focus of the Pecan Festival is the support it provides local community organizations.
Sponsorships and vendor participation and other activities enable the Sahuarita Pecan Festival to financially support the work of these local groups. The community partners for the 2013 Sahuarita Pecan Festival include, Sahuarita 4-H, Walden Grove Athletic Department, Sahuarita Explorers, Optimist Club of Green Valley and Valle Verde Rotary.
Festival attendees can take advantage of the free shuttle service from around Sahuarita to get to the Festival grounds.

Also, parking will be available immediately south of the festival grounds for $5.00 per car for the day; a portion of the proceeds going to local community organizations volunteering at the Sahuarita Pecan Festival.

Historic Sahuarita ranch features old fashioned family fun

The Examiner.com talks about the 2012 Sahuarita Pecan Festival. And gives a run down of what  happened on that busy Saturday afternoon.

Pecan Tree Shaker On Saturday, November 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Sahuarita Pecan Festival was held at the Walden family ranch.

Featuring businesses, entertainers, artists and restaurants from the Santa Cruz River Valley, this event was an opportunity for the Waldens to share their unique family history, contribute to and showcase the local nonprofit organizations that were represented there, and for the public to learn more about Farmers Investment Co. and The Green Valley Pecan Company.

The early vendor application deadline is July 6, 2012. The regular vendor application deadline is September 28, 2012.
